Personal Alarms During Power Outages: A Charging and Continuity Guide

Practical guide. A personal alarm needs more than a charged battery during a power outage. Telecare teams should review charging, mobile connectivity and the receiving workflow separately. This guide sets out evaluation questions, not a promise of uninterrupted service.

Review the complete communication chain

A powered wearable does not prove that an alert can reach a responder. Review the device, network, receiving endpoint and people responsible for responding as separate dependencies.

The Government of Canada power outage guide, dated March 12, 2026 and checked October 26, 2026, recommends planning communications and backup power, and checking whether an alert system works during an outage. This general guidance is not an assessment or endorsement of Amulink.

Distinguish battery capacity from operating time

The WPD-01 4G Personal Emergency Alarm has a rechargeable 3.7 V / 950 mAh battery and charging dock. Runtime, charging time and suitability of any backup power source must be confirmed for the intended configuration. Capacity alone does not establish them.

Agree on a charging and fallback plan

  • Confirm approved charging equipment and electrical requirements with the supplier.
  • Assign responsibility for routine charging and assistance with the dock.
  • Confirm compatibility before using any alternative adapter or power bank.
  • Document an alternative contact method if the alarm cannot be used.

Use a separate sample for supervised evaluation. Do not exhaust a person’s only working alarm or disconnect essential equipment for a test.

Check the receiving service

4G does not guarantee network availability during an outage. Ask the intended operator and receiving-service provider about their dependencies. WPD-01 market-specific bands, operator compatibility and platform integration are subject to technical evaluation. Wi-Fi positioning does not establish internet calling.

See our SIM and voice checks guide for related evaluation questions.

Confirm recovery after disruption

Assign someone to check charging, connectivity and the agreed receiving workflow after an outage. Revise the procedure when the SIM, operator, configuration or support arrangement changes. A personal alarm does not guarantee rescue; follow local official emergency guidance.

Discuss your evaluation

Discuss a WPD-01 sample evaluation with your target market and continuity requirements. Sample terms and compatibility require confirmation; requesting a sample does not promise a free unit, shipment or emergency response.
